On Yule, it is a Celtic Tradition to make a Witch's Cord as an expression of what you wish or hope for during the winter months. This is a time of renewal, rejuvination and reflection.

What you will need:

-Red, green and white ribbon (1 strand each, approx. 3ft. in length)

  • Yule incense
  • Charcoal Tablet
  • Herbs, stones
  • Bag to contain your herbs and stones

Herbs used during this season: Juniper, Cedar, Cinnamon, Juniper Berries, Pine needles, Rosemary, Nettle

Gemstones used during this season: Obsidian, Smokey Quartz, Quartz

Fold down one end of your ribbon and tie it together to make a knot. Make a loop so that you may hang this in your home. Braid the three strands of ribbon together. As you are braiding, say aloud what you are wishing for in the year to come!

When you are finished, tie a knot. On your braided cord, hang your bag containing your "charged" herbs and stones. You may add items that have meaning to you, that would be appropriate for your spell, such as jewelry, coins, etc.

Before hanging, charge your witch's cord by passing it through the burning incense (over charcoal) saying:

By the Divine Powers of the Lord and Lady I charge this cord with positive intent and ask that my wishes be granted! So Mot It Be!

It is respectful to give thanks by giving an offering back to the Earth.

May your holidays be healthy, prosperous and filled with love!
