George's 5th Street Cafe in the basement. In attendance were: Bob Bruhin, Maria Sawczuk, Nancy Lebovitz, Mad Fedor, Raffaella, Jay, Ellen, and Paula.
Deliverables Action Item: Responsibility fell to:
1) Final revisions of newsletter
2) E-Mail and web site
3) Newsletter distribution
4) Contact Pagan listings on web re: DVPN
5) July Event planning
Newsletter Group reviewed and made final revisions to "Get to know us" newsletter. Everyone was impressed with the format and graphics. Raffaella included space for meeting times/locations so that people will be able to find us. Fedor suggested we move editorial to front page for higher exposure. Group discussed and agreed back page with room for reader comment was a better location. Once webpage is established, Raffaella will also have the newsletter posted for those Pagans who do not want to kill trees and read a hard copy. We will receive copies for distribution at the PPM meeting on Sunday, April 25. Group agreed on a submission date for the next issue. The deadline will be May 23, 1999. We are shooting for a June 6, 1999 distribution date. Mailing list database was also discussed. It was suggested by Jay, that Paula, being the scribe, keep the database. Paula agreed. Deliverable: Raffaella will have the newsletter ready for distribution by April 25, 1999 and will bring it to those of us attending the PPM meeting. Paula will begin work on a mailing list database.
Finances Maria gave a financial accounting. We currently have $140.00 in our "shoe box" savings account. Maria collected the "meeting dues." An accounting will be made at the next meeting. The group chose to discuss the procedures of becoming non-profit at this time. Maria explained that we are still $160.00 away from being able to file for incorporation and an additional $150-$200 away from being a non-profit organization. Tabled: Discussion on donations and the tax liabilities involved.
University Associations Rafaela threw out to the group the possibility that she, or one of our members who has ties to one of the universities, look in to becoming a faculty/staff advisor for an on-campus Pagan group. She said that this would ensure that we had a free meeting place. Deliverable: Rafaela will contact administrators at Penn and Drexel Ellen will forward Temple Univ contact list to Bob
( 7pm "Plop goes the ceiling" )
Website & E-mail Bob established the website and e-mail address. The address and website were set up the way they are due to cost. We do not own it at this time. Bob saved $250.00. We can locate DVPN at: www.dvpn.org/~dvpn/ Our e-mail address is: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Deliverables: Raffaella will notify Pagan organizations on the net about our existence Fedor will check URLs periodically to see if we are mentioned
July Event- Location Bob contacted Helena Anderson and she recommended the Ethical Society. They are supposed to be reasonably priced. A security deposit is required, but refunded after the event is held. Bob also spoke to Art Auerbach, owner of Tarot Works, regarding space. Other venues suggested were: the University of the Arts grand hall, and Hand of Aries. The group agreed a definite location will be decided upon at the next meeting. Deliverable: Ellen will contact Helena regarding the possibility of using the grand lobby at the University of the Arts.
July Event- Seminars Bob found a wonderful speaker for an Astral Travel seminar when he attended a workshop at Tarot Works. Her name is Jeanne Galliano (sorry if I spelled Jeanne1s name incorrectly). He is going to contact her about the possibility of doing a presentation. Helena has offered to teach a seminar. Jay is planning on an herbal presentation. Nancy said she "will do something." The group agreed that we will ask each presenter to have a CV readily available for the event describing their credentials and explaining the program topic. We also discussed the possibility of having strolling bards/musicians. Jay suggested clowns. Raffaella then made a "quote of the week" saying that she did not want the event to be a 'Fish tank three ring zoo thing' Deliverable: Locate people interested in participating in the July Event. All are responsible for this task.
July Event- Name The group brain stormed on for possible names/titles for what we are calling our "July Event." Possible titles: Och DVPS Scala Moot The group agreed a name will be chosen at the next meeting. Fedor made a second "quote of the week" during this brain storming session 'Shampoo is fake manure' Deliverable: Everyone to think of possible names and come prepared to brain storm.
July Event- Publicity The group tentatively discussed publicizing the event. We agreed that once a name and location are determined we will submitt a press release, to ensure the accuracy of what we are trying to do, to the local media. It was also agreed that a synopsis of the "July Event" will be included in the first newsletter. Raffaella advised the group that listing in Philadelphia Weekly and the City Paper are free.
July Event- Costs The question was brought up regarding the possibility of charging admission to the event. This was tabled until a location and name are determined.
Meeting Dates and Times The consensus of the group was to determine the dates and time of the next four (4) meetings. These will also be posted in the newsletter. We will be meeting on the following dates: April 28 8pm Maple Garden Chinese Restaurant May 9 6pm George1s 5th Street May 19 8pm Maple Garden Chinese Restaurant June 6 6pm George1s 5th Street
Miscellaneous Possibility of merging the Broom Closet and DVPN was briefly discussed. This was tabled for a time in the future when DVPN is more viable. It was also agreed that Bob was in charge of planning birthday parties of "everyone" in the group. (Bob did not agree to this but majority ruled) The meeting rapidly came to closure with Fedor tempting Bob with cheese commercials. "Behold the power of cheese!" The final quote of the week came from Bob '(dot) .moo' The meeting was adjourned. |
