In attendance: Bob Bruhin, Maria Sawczuk, Franklin Evans, George Reinhart, Nancy Lebovitz, Raffaella, and Paula.

Items Up for Discussion

Summer Social

The group started planning the 2nd Annual Summer Social. To alleviate the problems incurred with the Crystal Ball falling on the Full Moon, the group agreed that the dates must be checked. We approximated that the Full Moon would occur around the 13th of July. (I checked Lunabar and found that it is actually on the 16th of July)

The date, depending on space availability at Fairmont Park, will be either Sunday, July 23 or Sunday, July 30. We would like to have the same location as last year, if possible. Raffaella, with Bob’s help, will be in charge of procuring the space.

We agreed to have the same schedule of events as last year with Six (6) speakers. Nancy has volunteered to lead a discussion and a walk through the trail that is by the site. Franklin has volunteered to speak on a still undetermined topic. We are in need of 4 more speakers. Paula or Raffaella will contact North Wolf on the possibility of his speaking again. It was also suggested that we get the coven leaders involved and have one or more of them speak.

We agreed to do the water balloon thing again, as well as encourage people to bring their drums and instruments. We will also try to have one or more grills so people can cook.

There will not be vendors. But Nancy’s buttons will again be for sale with proceeds being split. We are also looking for sponsors and door prizes.

It was agreed that we would send invitations to the covens inviting them to participate.

Also brought up for discussion was the scheduling of events, in general. We agreed it would benefit DVPN if we contacted the colleges for their academic year calendars. We would then be able to schedule events which do not coincide with breaks or testing periods. This would allow the university Pagan groups to attend our events.

Pagan Pride

Bob is handling the co-ordination of Pagan Pride. It is being held in September. The minimum requirements are holding a public ritual, sponsoring a food drive, and being press friendly.

Maria volunteered to be in the public relations contact for the event.

Possible locations for the ritual were discussed, with everyone agreeing that Penn’s Campus would best suit our needs. One of the possible drawbacks to obtaining university authorization to hold the ritual on campus is that Penn Pagans are not yet a recognized organization. Raffaella did suggest we contact the religious studies department as a possible solution.

The next item discussed was who would lead the ritual. It was agreed that the ritual should be fairly generic. Bob suggested that we ask the Penn Pagan group to lead it as they have done a great job with other rituals he has seen them perform.

It was agreed that we would talk with Penn Pagans regarding our ideas and possibly present them at one of their future meetings.

The Charter

Maria stated that due to her hectic schedule at work she has been unable to type the charter. However, she stated this is something that really needs to be done and a charter committee meeting has been scheduled for May 18 at Bob’s.

The Board

The group discussed the recreation of the board for the upcoming year. We need to contact the community and see who would like to participate and re-elect current board members who wise to serve again.

It was also agreed, that starting in July meetings will be held twice monthly. We will hold one meeting which is open to the public with board members present. This meeting will be held on the second Sunday of the month starting at 7pm. The board agreed that to transact business the second meeting of the month would be open to board members. We also agreed that dates and times would be agreed upon later.

It was agreed that as a practical matter the board only needs to meet once a month for us to handle all the necessary business and that we are getting to the point where we will have committees to work on the special projects and events taking place.

Concert Update

Maria stated that we still have two bands. Morah is still in existence and she needs to contact them. If they are unavailable, alternate selections will be chosen.

It was agreed that we would start looking for space. Franklin suggested the Prince Theater once again, as they are new and looking for stuff.

A possible date for the event would be early November. Possibly the 11th. The price will be determined by the costs we are likely to incur. If we are unable to co-ordinate the concert for this fall, we agreed a good alternative would be March or April 2001.

Newsletter

Raffaella stated that she would like the next newsletter to go out no later than early July. She is asking for articles and the calendar, etc. She also stated that Terry has offered to be a continuing contributor to the newsletter. We agreed the newsletter should be out as early in July as possible so that we can promote the Summer Social.

The group then adjourned to check out Maria’s new car!
