Welcome: Eric, Carolanne Seeger, and Susan Fricke

Board members present: Bob, Raffaella, Nancy, and Paula

ITEMS UP FOR DISCUSSION

Newsletter

Raffaella presented the rough draft of the summer newsletter for the board to review. Highlights in this issue are an article on the Alexandrian Library, Pagan Pride, and Nancy’s article on a ritual for Philadelphia. The "Help Wanted" ad is also in this issue.

There is still a delay in receiving the Hand of Aries advertisement. Raffaella will be contacting Fran for an update. The only other ad was Gloria’s.

Bob brought Ellen’s request to have complimentary ad for her Greenleaf Herbal in the newsletter to the board for a vote. Ellen’s argument was that she allowed us to use the Broom Closet information. Franklin stated we are not giving her a free ad. We are exchanging service. A service for a service. The board voted. There were 4 votes for. None opposing.

Update: Raffae saw Jay. He is alive and well and busy with work.

Target distribution date for the newsletter is beginning of July.

Susan stated she would like to contribute something and wanted to know what we need. She offered to do illustrations and also the use of her copier. She has a professional copier due to her business as a graphic artist. Bob suggested that Raffaella and Susan have a discussion off line as to how she can contribute to the newsletter and coordinate graphics. Raffaella will update the board at the next meeting.

Susan agreed to allow us the use of the copier in exchange for DVPN purchasing toner and paper. She also offered the use of her home for meetings as she lives in the city. We thanked her, but the meeting locations are set for the rest of the year.

Distribution

Nancy will be taking the newsletter to the PSFS meeting. Raffae may be going to New Hope and will distribute newsletters and Summer Social fliers there.

2nd Annual Summer Social- Picnic in the Park

Speakers

Raffaella reviewed the list of speakers. She will be contacting each of them to find out which times would suit their needs. The board agreed the lecture times would be at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. They would be approximately one hour in length and give people enough time between lectures to socialize.

Door Prizes

Raffaella reviewed the list of door prize donations.

Samantha will be donating a print. Fran is also donating something from Hand of Aries. Cindy from Kindred Spirit is also contributing something. Paula advised the board that she had spoken to Ellen and she was able to acquire a donation from Greenleaf Herbal also.

Sponsors

We currently have two sponsors. Hand of Aries and Kindred Spirit. Not only are Cindy and Fran sponsoring the event. They have also agreed to sell advance tickets in their stores.

Advance ticket sales.

Raffaella and Bob explained Paypal to the group. They explained that Paypal will "float" our money in an account until we ask to have it transferred to our personal account. If it is a business account that has a corresponding savings account, the money is transferred to savings. Additionally, for business accounts there is a fee involved.

Ticket Sales Program

Bob brought up the Four Quarters Farm ticket sales program for Magic Mountain. The event has passed, but he explained that in the future we could sell tickets for them and make $5.00 off each ticket sold.

George suggested we contact them to get more information regarding selling tickets to their events.

This item was tabled for a future meeting.

Other Summer Social Business

Signs directing people to the event location. The board agreed we would make plywood signs. George offered the use of his circular saw. It was also suggested to the board to have some one at Home Depot or where ever cut the wood at the store. The board agreed this was a good idea. Susan Fricke offered the use of her studio for painting the signs.

We accepted her offer and will be contacting her to make arrangements.

Charter Committee

Maria was not present at the meeting. There is no update.

DVPN Projects

Concert.

Maria was not present at the meeting and no update was available.

Pagan Pride

Bob gave a brief update. He also contributed an article on our plans for our Pagan Pride celebration in the newsletter. We will be soliciting volunteers and are actively looking for a site. Bob said he will also present a "dog and pony show" at the Summer Social to solicit ideas and people.

Fund Raising Projects.

Are all on the backburner.

Blood Drive.

Raffaella brought a suggestion of another blood drive to the board. She said she was watching the news over the last holiday weekend and took note that the blood banks are in short supply during the summer. The board agreed this was a good idea. George asked what was involved in setting up this event. Raffaella explained that the coordinator would set up a time with the Red Cross and solicit donors. George agreed to coordinate the blood drive in the Philadelphia facility of the Red Cross. He will send the board updates with his success.

Philadelphia Cares

The board agreed that at some point we may want to volunteer for one of their events. It was agreed that we would need an advance list of their activities so that we are able to coordinate a group to participate in a DVPN chosen activity.

NJ Pagan Picnic

Bob brought this information to the table. He stated the NJ Pagans are holding a picnic on Saturday, August 5. He said he thought it would be a good idea if we were to be sponsors as they are part of our area. Bob explained the levels of sponsorship and what we would be required to do.

The board voted. We agreed to that it would be viable for us to be a sponsor and that we would promote the event at the Summer Social and contact Ellen about placing information on the Broom Closet.

Adopt-a-Highway Program.

Raffaella brought this to the board. Our goal would be to tidy and keep clean a section of highway assigned to us by the state. The board is unsure how Harrisburg will react to some Pagans wanting to do this. We agreed to look into this idea further.

Potluck Picnic in Valley Forge National Park.

The event is being held on Sunday, July 16. This is not a DVPN sponsored event but we are encouraging people to go. Please contact Nizoni, who is a member of the discussion list, for more details and to let them know you are showing up.

Open Discussion

A member of the group asked if there is always poetry in the newsletter and if it has to be Pagan oriented. Raffaella explained that by chance she has received the poetry and not all of it is specifically Pagan.

Bob announced that we are changing our meeting scheduling. Public meetings will now be on the 2nd Sunday of the month and Board only meetings would be on a subsequent Thursday. The Sunday meetings will be more of a town hall where we will let everyone know what we’re doing, ask for ideas and volunteers, and socialize.

The meeting adjourned and we closed Panda Garden again!
