The article about Aunt Judy really struck a chord with me. I have been Wiccan for going on 8 years and now that I'm a mother I'm considering other paths because I am fed up with the lack of lasting groups and having to build just about everything from scratch, just to have it fall apart in a year or less. This is not to say I don't appreciate the groups I have belonged to, but I'm just out of energy. I'm a new mom and I just don't have the energy to put into starting a Pagan organization, and yet I so desperately want to be a part of some kind of real, offline Pagan group. I could participate more if groups that do exist locally (if you can call an hour drive local!) could do some simple things to make it easier for us parents: They could provide child programming or a nursery like most churches do. They could get a list of Pagan friendly babysitters to refer moms and dads to. Those of us who are Pagan and are parents could volunteer to baby-sit and rotate the responsibility. I have done this myself using Witch's Voice's professional listings I have advertised that I baby-sit and can provide children's content for local pagan events, but so far I have only provided children's programming at Dover's Pagan Pride Day (2002 and I'm signed up for 2003).

Paganism needs moms and dads and kids if it is going to grow and mature into a world religion, and not just a rebellion. Young pagans need role models and Crones need children to spoil. As a Pagan parent I feel left out of the general Pagan community, and to leave out parents is to leave out kids and children are our future! I get the message from local covens that, "Our members don't have kids." and my reply is "If you build it they will come." I know this is true because I built my UU's Sunday School program 5 years ago from scratch and now we have many growing families involved and have divided into 3 classes.
