The Bell, Book and Candle, a Pagan store in Dover, DE, and sponsors of the Delaware Pagan Pride Day, was sold in August to James C. Welch and Ivo Dominguez, Jr. Both of them are high-ranking members of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel, a Wiccan tradition with several covens around the Delaware Valley. Welch is High Priest of the Troupe of the Starry Door, and was formerly High Priest of the Keepers of the Holly Chalice, the founding coven of the Assembly. Dominguez is one of the Elders of the Assembly and the author of several books.

Welch and Dominguez were approached by former owners Diana Welch (no relation to James) and Helen Haughey about buying the store because while they were unable to devote the time needed to running the business, they wanted to ensure that it remained open as a resource for the community. The sale became official on August 23. Darleen Aragon will continue to manage the store, as she has done for many years.

"We bought it for many reasons," says Dominguez. "Among them, we wanted to make sure that the Pagan community in our area would not lose an important resource that often acts as a makeshift community center. It is our intention to ultimately buy the building the store is in as well. If we keep the store until we pass away, many years from now, then the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel will inherit the store as a revenue stream for the New Alexandrian Library project. If for whatever reason we sell the store, the Assembly will get one-third of the profits."

He added that they will be keeping the current product line and services, and also adding new items and expanding the selection of books. They also plan to turn the back room into a space for classes and book signings; they will continue to sponsor Pagan Pride Day in Dover and hope to add other events as time goes on.
